“If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed...the Lord will guide you always.”  Isaiah 58:10-11

Rock Creek’s mission statement is “Take Jesus as He is to people as they are.”  Based on this, the Rock Creek Homeless Ministry (RCHM) works to meet the basic needs of the homeless where they are, as they are.  Showing them they matter to God.  We work through the following teams in conjunction with other local agencies and organizations.

The Breakfast Team

Members of the RCHM volunteer one day a week from 7:30–8:00am at the Salvation Army to assist with handing out breakfast and other items.  The Breakfast Team volunteers hand out backpacks, cold drinks, baked treats, brown bag meals, bus tokens, and fruit to serve the homeless.  These volunteers are showing the homeless “They Matter to God.”

The Clothing Team

Members of the RCHM volunteer in a variety of different ways within this team.  A group volunteers one day a week from 12:00–1:00pm at the Clothes Closet located at First Presbyterian Church downtown.  These volunteers hand out clothes, shoes, and toiletries to those who request them.  Another group volunteers to sort and prepare clothing items, received through donation activities, for transport to the Clothes Closet.  Another group works in the Clothes Closet on weekends/evenings to organize and stock items by size on shelves and hangers.  The Clothes Closet provides seasonal, clean, and appropriate clothing articles to the homeless.

The Donation Team

Members of the RCHM volunteer to identify and secure products and monetary donations to ensure the RCHM continues to serve the homeless population in Central Arkansas.  These volunteers collaborate with Rock Creek members, small groups, other ministries, local businesses, foundations and grant programs to secure resources needed to sustain the activities and outreach efforts of these teams and this ministry to the homeless.  We are building long-term sustainability for this ministry in Central Arkansas.

The Mobile Outreach Team

Members of the RCHM volunteer to go out on a Mobile Outreach Van to distribute comfort items like blankets, soap, hygiene products, water, and other donated materials to those living wooded areas in and around Central Arkansas.  If you are interested in engaging the homeless of Central Arkansas in a safe environment, or if you want to reach out to people in need please consider this team as an option for ministry within the Rock Creek Homeless Ministry. The van goes out on Monday & Wednesday evening from 6-9pm, and on Saturdays from 2-4pm.

“Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your work for the Lord is never wasted.”  1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
